The BJP formed the government in Haryana on its own for the first time by winning 47 seats in the 2014 assembly elections. In the 2019 elections, it got 40 seats. In a series of posts on Instagram, Modi saluted the people of Haryana for this great victory and said that this is the victory of the politics of development and good governance. I assure the people here that we will leave no stone unturned to fulfill their aspirations.

Defying exit poll predictions, BJP scored a hat-trick of victories in Haryana. The results in Jammu and Kashmir also defied all predictions and gave a big victory to the National Conference-Congress alliance in the Union Territory. As soon as the results came, Farooq Abdullah announced his son Omar Abdullah as the next Chief Minister. The BJP won 48 out of 90 seats in Haryana; the majority figure is 46. Congress won 37 seats. No party has won a third consecutive term in Haryana since its inception in 1966. Om Prakash Chautala’s Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), once powerful in Haryana, won two seats, while Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) won two seats. The party, which allied with the BJP in 2019, failed to open its account.

Jammu saved BJP’s honour, trust in NC-Congress in Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, where elections were held for the 90-member assembly for the first time in a decade, the Congress-NC alliance won 48 seats, while the BJP secured 29 seats. Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) got three seats. Somewhat surprisingly, AAP’s Mehraj Malik won in Doda. NC leader Omar Abdullah, who won in Budgam and Ganderbal constituencies, took a dig at the BJP and said that those who wanted to destroy us were destroyed. The possibility of a hung assembly in the Union Territory has raised apprehensions among opposition parties that the five MLAs nominated by the Lieutenant Governor may play a decisive role in the formation of the government. The BJP was expected to do better in these elections. Party leaders were claiming to win 30 to 35 seats in Jammu. However, the BJP has won only 29 seats in this election. All these seats are in the Jammu region.
